BENNINGTON, Vt. – The New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) announced on Monday its weekly award winners for the period ending September 18, 2016 with Southern Vermont College junior Marc Brandmeyer (Bennington, Vt.) being named the Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week.
It is the third consecutive top honor this year for Brandmeyer and his fifth career NECC Runner of the Week laurel.
Brandmeyer was first for SVC again on Saturday, placing seventh overall at a tough Johnson State Invitational. The junior captain came through with a time of 28:02, matching that which he posted last week, for another split of 5:38 per mile.
SVC swept the men's cross country accolades for the third-straight week as freshman Davante Smith (Ellenville, N.Y.) picked up the Rookie of the Week laurel. Smith reeled in the accolade for the first time this season after classmate Bailey Hamilton (Londonderry, N.H.) took it home each of the past two weeks.
Smith had a stellar showing on Saturday for Southern Vermont, placing fourth for the Mountaineers at the Johnson Invitational. His split time of 6:09 per mile on the 8k course helped SVC take fifth as a team in the tough-fielded meet, putting up a total mark of 30:36.
Brandmeyer, Smith and the Mountaineers are back in action this Saturday when they head down Route 7 for Williams College's Purple Valley Classic at Mount Greylock Regional High School-- that 8k slated to begin at 12:10 p.m.
