JOHNSON, Vt. – On Saturday, the Southern Vermont College men's cross country team ran against a challenging field at the Johnson State College Invitational, placing fifth overall in the crew's third meet of the year.
One Mountaineer finished in the top 10 while another placed himself in the top 20. Southern Vermont posted 107 team points as Clarkson University won the meet with a staggering 28 squad points, having five runners come through in the top 10.
Next up for the Mountaineers is Williams College's Purple Valley Classic, the 8k race at Mount Greylock Regional High School in Williamstown, Mass. scheduled for 12:10 p.m.

SVC junior captain Marc Brandmeyer (Bennington, Vt.) was first for the Mountaineers with a seventh-place finish, coming in with an identical time from a week ago at 28:02. Bennington College sophomore Noah Froh (Milwaukee, Wis.) was next for Southern Vermont, taking 21 seconds off his time from last week to place 17th with a 28:51 showing.
Mountaineer senior captain Corey Barcomb (Burlington, Vt.) was third for SVC with a mark of 30:08, and freshman Davante Smith (Ellenville, N.Y.) placed fourth for Southern Vermont with a time of 30:36.
Freshman Bailey Hamilton (Londonderry, N.H.) rounded out the Mountaineers' top five with a 31:09, and senior Aden Fischer (Arlington, Vt.) shaved nine seconds off his time from last week's Castleton Invitational with a 33:30.
