CASTLETON, Vt. – The Southern Vermont College men's cross country team competed in its first 8000 meter race of the year Saturday at the Castleton Invitational, the Mountaineers taking claim to their second-straight meet victory in as many weeks with a great all-around performance.
SVC landed five runners in the top 10 to score 24 team points, topping the hosts by nine.
Southern Vermont continues its inner-state schedule next Saturday, September 17 when the team goes for three-in-a-row at the Johnson State College Invitational.

Mountaineer junior captain Marc Brandmeyer (Bennington, Vt.) once again finished first for his team and second overall, coming through with a time of 28:02. Bennington College sophomore Noah Froh (Milwaukee, Wis.) moved up on the SVC ranks to place second for SVC and fifth overall at 29:12 while Southern Vermont freshman Bailey Hamilton (Londonderry, N.H.) was not far behind with a crossing of 29:27.
SVC senior captain Corey Barcomb (Burlington, Vt.) was next in the close pack, finishing eighth overall with a mark of 29:36. Freshman Davante Smith (Ellenville, N.Y.) rounded out the Mountaineers' top five at ninth overall with a 29:41 as he set his 8k personal best.
Bennington sophomore Alexander Ging (Simsbury, Conn.) completed the Spartans' course with a time of 32:33 in his first collegiate 8k with SVC, and Mountaineer senior Aden Fischer (Arlington, Vt.) was not far off his personal record as he crossed with a time of 33:39.
