Ferguson Takes First, Brandmeyer Finishes Second as Men's Cross Country Wins Castleton Invitational

CASTLETON, Vt. — The Southern Vermont College men's cross country team captured the 2015 Castleton University Invitational title on Saturday, topping the hosting Spartans by just four points in the team's first 8,000 meter race of the year.

SVC's Justin Ferguson (Broadalbin, N.Y.) continued a great start to his junior season, winning his second meet in as many weeks to lead the Mountaineers. He crossed with a top time of 27:16, beating the field of 48 other runners by over a full minute. Southern Vermont sophomore Marc Brandmeyer (Bennington, Vt.) finished second on the day, coming through at 28:23 to help his squad with a valuable pair of team points.

Bennington College sophomore Noah Froh (Milwaukee, Wis.) placed eighth in his first collegiate 8k for the Mountaineers, setting a personal record time of 29:43. The next two Southern Vermont runners came through with consecutive finishes as senior captain Cameron Michael Curtiss (Milton, Vt.) was 11th at 30:39 and junior Corey Barcomb (Burlington, Vt.) was close behind with a time of 30:48 to take 12th.

The Mountaineers next gear up for the Johnson State College Invitational next Saturday, September 19, their third and final in-state race of the year.
