BENNINGTON, Vt. - Southern Vermont College senior Herson Canta (Lagunitas, California) was honored Monday by the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) as the Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week for the period ending October 5, 2014.

Canta was first across the finish line for Southern Vermont at Saturday’s Keene State Invitational, finishing seventh overall with a time of 27:05 on the 8000 meter course. His placement was instrumental in the Mountaineers claiming the third-place team title on the day. This marks the second time this season that Canta is being recognized by the conference with the Runner of the Week honor, also garnering the accolade on September 8.

No Mountaineers will be receiving any conference recognition next week as the two teams take this weekend off to recover and prepare for the Western New England University Golden Bear Invitational taking place next Saturday, October 18.
