BENNINGTON, Vt. – The New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) announced Monday its weekly awards for the period ending October 19, 2014 with Southern Vermont College senior Herson Canta (Lagunitas, California) being honored as the Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week.

Canta had another outstanding performance for the Mountaineers on Saturday, finishing third overall at the Western New England University Golden Bear Invitational; his time of 26:50 on the 8K course put him in place to help his team tie for second overall on the day. In five of the team's six races this year, Canta has placed seventh or better with a trio of top-three finishes. This marks the third time this season that the senior has been honored by the conference with the top weekly award.

Canta and the Mountaineers will take this weekend off to recover and prepare for the NECC Championship, taking place next Saturday, November 1 at Stanley Park in Westfield, Massachusetts.
