WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Southern Vermont College men's cross country team ran at the Williams College Purple Valley Invitational Saturday afternoon with Mountaineers competing in both the 5000 and 8000 meter races.
SVC finished 13th overall out of 21 teams that placed in the 8000 meter race with seven Mountaineers competing on the longer course. The remaining four Southern Vermont harriers participated in the 5000 meter race, just one shy of qualifying for a team result.
Mountaineer senior Herson Canta (Lagunitas, California) was first for SVC in the 8K, finishing with a time of 28:01. He was followed by sophomore Justin Ferguson (Broadalbin, New York) who came through at 28:20, and freshman Marc Brandmeyer (Bennington, Vermont) was third for the team at 29:09.
Freshman Andrew Brandmeyer (Bennington, Vermont) was behind his brother, finishing fourth for SVC with a time of 30:35. Junior Cameron Michael Curtiss (Milton, Vermont) rounded out the team's top five with a 30:47 showing.
Senior Hesbon Ogeka (Windom, Minnesota) finished first for Southern Vermont in the 5K race, crossing the finish line with a time of 20:12. He was followed by junior Kenny Poteat (Yonkers, New York) who finished at 20:38.
Colby College was the overall champion for the 8K race, and Williams was the team victor of the 5K competition.
The Mountaineers now gear up for their 11:45 a.m. start at next Saturday's Keene State Invitational hosted by Keene State College.
