Harriers Conclude Non-traditional Spring Season at Pride Classic

WESTON, Mass. – Finishing up its non-traditional spring season, the Southern Vermont College track members participated in the Regis College Pride Classic on Sunday with some great personal bests seen by the Mountaineers.

Junior Herson Canta (Eagle Rock, California) ran his way to a personal record in the 1500 meter race, shaving almost a full
four seconds off his previous best for a 4:13.9 finish, good enough to place sixth overall. Classmate and captain Victor Velazquez (Los Angeles, California) nearly took three seconds off for a personal best time of 4:22.7 to place 10th, and sophomore Cameron Curtiss (Milton, Vermont) blew past his previous personal best with a 4:29.4 showing. Freshman Corey Barcomb (Burlington, Vermont) came through with a time of 4:53.5 to round out the Mountaineers, about 10 seconds faster than he ran the same race a week earlier.

In the 800 meter dash, Canta again finished first for the Mountaineers, coming in at eighth overall with a time of 2:04.4. Velazquez crossed the finish line at 2:07.3, and Curtiss took over two seconds off his previous best with a time of 2:13.1.

The four Mountaineer men also competed as a team in the 4x800 meter relay, finishing third with an overall time of 8:55.4

On the women's side, freshman Mallory Cano-Scribner (East Montpelier, Vermont) saw her first action of the spring, competing in the 200 and 400 meter dashes. She crossed the line with times of 38.4 and 1:26.3, respectively.

Freshman Schyler McGuire (Mechanicville, New York) ran hard in the women's 1500 meter race, finishing over 10 seconds faster than she did a week ago with a time of 5:45.8.

The Mountaineers now look to off-season training on their own to prepare for the traditional fall cross country seasons.
