Men's XC Finishes Regular Season at Golden Bear Invit.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Southern Vermont College men's cross country team ran to a 12th-place finish Saturday at the Western New England University Golden Bear Invitational.

SVC was led by junior Herson Canta (Eagle Rock, Calif.) who placed 21st with a time of 27:59.78, just seven seconds shy off his personal best time.

The next four Mountaineers crossed within 30 seconds of each other, junior captain Victor Velazquez (Los Angeles, Calif.) being the first with a time of 29:44.88. He was followed by freshman Corey Barcomb (Burlington, Vt.) who came through with a personal best of 30:08.69, almost a minute faster than his previous career mark.

Sophomore Cameron Curtiss (Milton, Vt.) finished fourth for Southern Vermont with a time of 30:14.62, and junior Hesbon Ogeka (Windom, Minn.) rounded out the Mountaineer top five at 30:18.22, 14 seconds faster than his former personal best.

Lyndon State College senior Kyle Powers (Waterford, Vt.) led the 190-runner field at 26:01.8, helping the Hornets to a second-place team finish. Westfield State University captured the team title, and Clark University finished third on the day.

Southern Vermont now looks to finishing training for the New England Collegiate Conference Championship on October 26 at Stanley Park in Westfield, Mass., an 8K race that will be hosted by Bay Path College.
