BENNINGTON, Vt. – The New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) announced Sunday its pairings for the 2014 men’s volleyball postseason tournament with Southern Vermont College taking the No. 3 seed.
The Mountaineers won the most games in their nine-year program history this season, finishing 13-12 with an 8-4 mark in NECC play; it was also the first time that they finished the regular season above .500.
Southern Vt. will take on No. 2 Daniel Webster College in the tournament’s semifinal round Friday at 6 p.m. at Endicott College. DWC was 13-12 this year with a 9-3 record against league competition. The two teams split the season series with the Eagles taking the first match 3-1 and then the Mountaineers getting revenge with a 3-2 road victory.
Endicott again locked up the top seed and ability to host the tournament after going 16-12 overall on the season, 11-1 in the NECC. The Gulls’ lone conference loss was at SVC back on March 4. EC takes on No. 4 Regis College at 4 p.m. on Friday in the semifinals after the Pride collected the final playoff spot with a 6-6 NECC record (12-10 overall). The two Friday evening winners will face-off Saturday in the 4 p.m. championship match.
