BENNINGTON, Vt. – After his first weekend as a Mountaineer, Southern Vermont College junior Scott Fitzgerald (Fort Edward, N.Y.) was selected the New England Collegiate Conference Men’s Volleyball Player of the Week for period ending Jan. 26, 2014 as announced by the league on Monday.
Fitzgerald hit a team-best .275 over the weekend to start the 2014 season, racking up 39 kills (2.79/set) and 17 digs on the defensive end. He also chipped in with six assists and three service aces. In the season-opener, the junior notched 11 kills and five digs in a 3-1 win over Regis. He was also named to the Johnson & Wales Tip-off All-Tournament Team for his performance over the four matches in Rhode Island.
The opposite hitter and the Mountaineers return to action Saturday when they travel to the SUNYIT Invitational, playing the hosting Wildcats and then Keuka College that afternoon.
