BENNINGTON, Vt. – For the third time this season, a Southern Vermont College men’s volleyball member has been named the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Player of the Week, this time being senior Anthony Barahona (Eagle Rock, Calif.) for the week ending April 6, 2014.
Barahona was efficient for the Mountaineers in their 3-3 week during which they won their final two NECC matches. He was named to the MIT Scramble All-Tournament Team over the weekend and collected his 1,000th career kill on Wednesday's Senior Night when SVC hosted Elms. He hit .313 on the week with 3.94 kills per set, adding 2.78 digs per set and two service aces per match. In a Saturday win over Bard, Barahona tallied 13 kills and no hitting errors on 25 swings for a .520 hitting percentage.
This marks the second time of his four-year illustrious career that Barahona has picked up the NECC accolade. Classmate Anthony Ayala (Pico Rivera, Calif.) and junior Scott Fitzgerald (Fort Edward, N.Y.) both garnered the award once at earlier points of the season.
Barahona and the Mountaineers now focus on preparing for their NECC semifinal match against Daniel Webster College Friday at Endicott College.
