NASHUA, N.H. –Daniel Webster men's volleyball team hit a season best .315 in posting a 3-0 victory over Southern Vermont College in a NECC/NECVA Divisional matchup Wednesday night at the Mario Vagge Gymnasium.
Junior Chris Shannon had 19 kills Freshman Joe Walz (E. Longmeadow, Mass.) added 14 kills and six digs while sophomore setter Kyle Clement racked up 35 assists as the Eagles (4-4, 3-1 NECC) posted a 25-12, 25-21, 25-22 victory.
Senior Justin Masse added five kills and junior Elson Abotsi chipped in with four for the winners.
Anthony Barahona led the Mountaineers (2-9, 1-3 NECC) with seven kills while Connor Murray (Litchfield, Conn.) notched six. Anthony Ayala registered 19 kills, while Aaron Eschler posted a team high eight digs.
The Eagles trailed only once early on in the opening set, combining to hit .276 finishing with a 13-3 kills advantage but fell behind early and trailed throughout the bulk of set two before rallying.
In the second, the Mountaineers held as much as a four point edge 13-9 after a Murray kill, and were ahead 20-17 after a Nick Haggerty kill.
But Shannon went to work at the net while Eagle junior David Miller was steady at the line. Shannon would knock down three quick kills as part of a devastating 7-0 run that also saw three SVC attack errors for a 24-20 lead. Walz would close it out with another kill for the 25-21 win.
Trailing again in the third at 17-13 after a Barahona kill, the Eagles again rallied behind four kills from Shannon, a kill from Walz and five SVC errors as part of a 9-1 run and a 22-18 Eagle lead.
An Abotsi kill made it 24-21 and after a Barahona kill, Walz closed it out with his 14th and final kill of the night to complete the sweep.
Both teams return to action on Friday for NECVA divisional play. Daniel Webster visits Endicott while Southern Vermont visits MIT. Both matches begin at 7:00 p.m.
