Men's Volleyball splits at Mountaineer Tri-Match

BENNINGTON, Vt. – The Southern Vermont Men's Volleyball team won its first match against a NECC team in program history today, defeating Lesley 3-1. Anthony Barahona led the way for the Mountaineers with 23 kills. 

"It feels good to see the program get a victory against a team that is in the conference," said Coach Josh Stokes. "I'm happy with where the program is heading and eventually we will have gotten to the place I am envisioning." 

The Lynx won the first set 25-20 before SVC won the last three sets, 25-11, 25-20 and 25-22. 

Leading the way for the Mountaineers was Connor Murray with 14 kills and 10 digs. Nick Haggerty had a team high 19 digs while Barahona, Anthony Ayala and Aaron Eschler added 12, 16 and 16 digs respectively. Ayala also had 38 assists in the victory. 

Lesley's, Zach Almeida-Beers led the way with 9 kills and 16 digs. Christian Domingo and William Lau also contributed 12 digs. Stephen Siragus had 18 assists for the Lynx. 

"There are many things even though small that are really starting to make this team step up to the level of the talent we play," Stokes added. 

In the second match of the day, Mount Saint Vincent defeated Lesley 3-0. The Dolphins won the first set in a landslide 25-11 before the Lynx played them tough in the last two losing 25-23 in both. 

Leading the way for the Dolphins was David Guerrero with 12 kills. Michael Sin had 23 digs and Chris Bacchi added 13. Michael Quinn compiled 29 assists in the win. 

Siragusa and Almeida-Beers led the way for the Lynx with 14 and 10 digs a piece. Siragusa also added 14 assists in the effort. 

In the third match of the day the Mountaineers were defeated by the Dolphins, 3-0. SVC lost 25-16, 25-22 and 25-9. 

SVC was led by Barahona with eight kills and Ayala with 17 assists. 

The Dolphins were led by Guerrero and Bacchi with 12 and 11 kills respectively. Quinn had 33 assists in the win. Mark Sargente added 14 digs in the effort. 

The Dolphins improve to 3-0 overall on the day and the Mountaineers overall record is now 2-3. The Lynx overall record is now 0-7.
