Mountaineers Men's Volleyball Defeats Lesley, 3-1

BENNINGTON, Vt. – The Southern Vermont Men's Volleyball team won its first match against a NECC team in program history today, defeating Lesley 3-1. Anthony Barahona led the way for the Mountaineers with 23 kills. 

"It feels good to see the program get a victory against a team that is in the conference," said Coach Josh Stokes. "I'm happy with where the program is heading and eventually we will have gotten to the place I am envisioning." 

The Lynx won the first set 25-20 before SVC won the last three sets, 25-11, 25-20 and 25-22. 

Leading the way for the Mountaineers was Connor Murray with 14 kills and 10 digs. Nick Haggerty had a team high 19 digs while Barahona, Anthony Ayala and Aaron Eschler added 12, 16 and 16 digs respectively. Ayala also had 38 assists in the victory. 

Lesley's, Zach Almeida-Beers led the way with 9 kills and 16 digs. Christian Domingo and William Lau also contributed 12 digs. Stephen Siragus had 18 assists for the Lynx. 

"There are many things even though small that are really starting to make this team step up to the level of the talent we play," Stokes added.
