BENNINGTON, Vt. – The New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) announced on Monday its weekly award winners for the period ending September 25, 2016 with Southern Vermont College freshman Chris Jimenez (Newark, N.J.) being tabbed the Men's Soccer Rookie of the Week.
Jimenez had a solid week in net for Southern Vermont, doing his part to get the Mountaineers into overtime in each of their two contests. He came up with 11 saves in the tough 3-2 double-overtime loss to Lyndon State College on Tuesday, and he then stood on his head in SVC's NECC opener on Saturday to help the Mountaineers pull out a 1-1 tie at Daniel Webster College. The rookie keeper made 16 saves at DWC on Saturday; four of those stops came in the 20 extra minutes, three being in the second overtime when SVC was playing with only 10 men on the field.
This marks the second-straight week that Southern Vermont has taken the NECC Rookie of the Week laurel.
Jimenez and the Mountaineers are back in action Tuesday night with a 7 p.m. kickoff at Springfield College.
