Men’s Soccer Downed 7-0 in Non-conference Play at Castleton

CASTLETON, Vt. – The Southern Vermont College men's soccer team ventured north for a non-conference match Wednesday night, falling 7-0 to Castleton University at Spartan Stadium.

Castleton scored three times in the opening half before pulling away with another four scores in the final 45 minutes.

SVC (4-9-3) is back in league action for its next game, hosting Lesley University for the Mountaineers' final New England Collegiate Conference regular season contest (2:30 p.m.). That will also serve as Southern Vermont's Senior Day with the team honoring captain Taylor Baker (Hoosick Falls, N.Y.) prior to the start of the match.

Seven Spartans notched a goal during their Senior Night as the hosts held SVC to just one shot on goal.

Mountaineer freshman keeper Chris Jimenez (Newark, N.J.) came up with nine saves in the loss (4-9-3).

Castleton got on the board in just the ninth minute of the match, and the Spartans padded their lead nearly 13 minutes later. The hosts then put their third in the back of the net with 17:07 left to go in the half and brought that 3-0 upper hand into the locker room. Castleton continued to build on its separation in the second stanza, tacking up four more goals while keeping the Mountaineers off the board for the shutout.
