BENNINGTON, Vt. — On Monday, the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) announced its 2015 men's soccer award winners and all-Conference teams with a pair of Southern Vermont College freshmen players being selected to the All-NECC Second Team.
Rookies Anthony Dominguez (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Nikolas Joseph (Coventry, Conn.) both landed Second Team honors after having great first collegiate seasons for SVC.
Dominguez tied for the sixth-most goals scored by a player in the NECC and tied for the seventh-most total points in the Conference, registering eight and 18, respectively. The defender's team-leading scores mark was the most goals recorded by a Mountaineer since 2011 while two were game winners for Southern Vermont. "Anthony had a strong first season with us as he transitioned into the college game," commented second-year SVC head coach Joe Baia. "He worked very hard to make us stronger in the back and in the midfield and did his part in sending us in the right direction. I am excited to watch him grow as a player within our system and become a great ambassador for SVC soccer."
Joseph was right on Dominguez's heels, notching five goals and a team-leading six assists for 16 points. That point total tied him for the 11th-most in the NECC while the forward's assists mark was the most for a Mountaineer since 2012. "Nik embodies what our program strives to be," said Baia. "His personality is contagious and he immediately made his presence felt on and off the field. He did a great job creating a more dynamic attack for us, and I am excited to see how hard he will work to get stronger and faster during the break."
Senior captain Sean Deegan (Seymour, Conn.) was also named to the first-ever NECC All-Sportsmanship Team.
