SOMERVILLE, Mass. — Southern Vermont College fell 5-0 Saturday afternoon against Newbury College in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) men's soccer action at Dilboy Stadium.
The Nighthawks scored three times in the first half and added another pair in the closing 45 minutes for the league victory.
Southern Vermont (4-12, 2-5 NECC) is back at it on Tuesday with a non-conference match, hosting Fisher College at 3 p.m. for the Mountaineers' final home game of the year.
SVC senior captain James Tschinkel (Freehold, N.Y.) got off three shots in the contest, all being on frame. Freshman Nikolas Joseph (Coventry, Conn.) had three attempts with two being on goal. Mountaineer freshman keeper Noah Chani (Hoosick Falls, N.Y.) registered three saves in the effort.
Newbury got on the board in the 26th minute of the match, adding another goal 49 seconds later for an insurance tally. NC put home one more before the break as the hosts took their 3-0 lead to halftime. Following intermission, the Nighthawks struck twice more to pull away for the Conference win.
