CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — With eight goals coming in the first half, the Southern Vermont College men's soccer team won 10-0 on the road Saturday afternoon, defeating Wheelock College at Pine Manor College in non-conference action.
In the first meeting between the two teams since 2010, Bennington College senior Chernoh Jalloh (Free Town, Sierra Leone) registered his first collegiate points for the Mountaineers, scoring three times and assisting on a fourth goal.
It took SVC senior Erik Argueta (Pico Rivera, California) just 1:48 to score the first Southern Vermont goal of the day, his fourth of the season. He would be assisted by Jalloh later in the half for his fifth notch of the year, putting the Mountaineers up 6-0 at the time in the 26th minute.
Southern Vermont continued to score when it had the opportunity to do so with junior Daveon Lamar Logan (Los Angeles, California) adding his second and third goals of the year, sandwiching an assist to junior Pablo Aguirre (Kansas City, Missouri) who netted his first as a Mountaineer in the 68th minute of play.
SVC senior captain Brenden Shea (North Providence, Rhode Island) saw his first action of the year between the pipes, collecting his first career shutout victory (1-0) with two saves on the day. Wheelock senior keeper Sunshine Shearer (English Harbour, Antigua) made 10 saves in the losing effort (0-5).
The Mountaineers (2-11-1) now gear up for their final three New England Collegiate Conference matches that will dictate postseason berths; the first game in that stretch is on Wednesday when Elms College visits SVC for a 3:30 p.m. start. Wheelock (0-10) next visits Daniel Webster College on Tuesday for a 4 p.m. kickoff.
