Men's Soccer Dealt 3-1 Loss at Regis

WESTON, Mass. – The Southern Vermont College men's soccer team fell at Regis College on Saturday, losing by a 3-1 margin.

The loss drops the Mountaineers to 1-5 in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC); they are 2-13 overall on the season.  Regis improves to 4-2 in the conference and 7-9 overall.

Regis got on the board first when freshman Dillon Lanctot (Somersworth, N.H.) chipped the ball over Mountaineer freshman keeper Christopher Dunham (Valley Falls, N.Y.) with just over a minute to play in the opening period.  Freshman Mike Panagiotakas (Methuen, Mass.) assisted on the goal.

The Pride increased their lead at the 49:04 mark with a headed goal from Alex Caliendo (Windsor, Conn.) off a corner kick.  Ricardo Argueta (Los Angeles, Calif.) assisted from the corner.

Southern Vermont closed the gap in the 52nd minute when freshman Ruben Olivares (Pico Rivera, Calif.) scored his sixth goal of the season, getting assisted by freshman Jorge Cuevas (Chula Vista, Calif.) and sophomore Erik Argueta (Pico Rivera, Calif.) during a scramble in the box.

Regis then added its insurance tally when freshman Cody Puglisi (Centereach, N.Y.) took a shot from the left side and put it in the top right corner; Argueta assisted for his second of the day.

Dunham recorded seven saves on the day, while Regis junior goalkeeper Stefan Todorovic (Los Angeles, Calif.) stopped eight SVC shots.

The Mountaineers host Newbury College next Saturday when SVC celebrates its Senior Day at 1 p.m. on Everett Field.  Regis closes out its regular season next Saturday at Mitchell for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
