BENNINGTON, Vt. – The Southern Vermont Mountaineers men's soccer team clashed with conference foe Elms College on a brisk November afternoon Wednesday. SVC hopes were high going into the game; however, at the thirty-minute mark, they conceded a goal to Gerard Lawler (Victoria, Australia) of Elms.
The second half of play went without a goal until the 67th minute when Elms seized control of the game with its second goal by Joelle Reyes (San Salvador, El Salvador). Connor Murray (Litchfield, Conn.) found the back of the net off of a beautiful free kick from Erik Argueta (Pico Rivera, Calif.), but that would ultimately be the only goal of the day for the Mountaineers.
SVC put on a furious rally in the 78th minute, culminating in Murray's goal. As the Mountaineers looked to keeps the momentum going for a final push to tie the game, they gave Elms offensive opportunities.
Elms transitioned well and found Adam O'Grady (Somers, Conn.) off a throw in; he then took a curling shot to the far-side netting over the outstretched Christopher Dunham (Valley Falls, N.Y.) for the 3-1 go-ahead. O'Grady then assisted Josh DiNoto (Brandford, Conn.) for the last tally of the game.
Dunham finished the day with four saves, while three different Blazer keepers accounted for three saves on the day.
The Mountaineers continue NECC play with a 4 p.m. match on Saturday at Regis (Mass.), while the Blazers host Lesley University for a 3 p.m. kick off on Saturday.
