Men's Soccer Gets 1st Conference Win, 2-0 at Daniel Webster

NASHUA, N.H. – Two first-half goals from Mountaineer junior Pierre Massena (West Milford, N.J.) led the Southern Vermont College men's soccer team to a 2-0 win at Daniel Webster College on Saturday in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) play.

The Mountaineers are now 1-1 in conference action (2-8-1 overall), while the Eagles drop to 0-2 in the NECC (1-7-2 overall).

Massena scored his first of the day in the 9th minute, soon after increasing the Mountaineer lead in the 20th.  Both goals were unassisted.

SVC freshman keeper Christopher Dunham (Valley Falls, N.Y.) made seven saves as he recorded his first collegiate shutout.  Counterpart Sean Hamilton (Brookline, N.H.) stopped six shots on the day.

The victory marks head coach Tim Penrod's first win at Daniel Webster; the Eagles hold an 8-7 series advantage.

Penrod noted that, "Today was the most complete team effort we have put forward all year. Everyone stepped up and did the little things."

The Mountaineers next travel to Skidmore College for a 7 p.m. match on Tuesday, while DWC returns to action at 5 p.m. on Wednesday visiting Plymouth State.
