Hamlet Adds ECAC DIII All-New England Second Team Honor

BENNINGTON, Vt. — More than a month after the end of his season, Southern Vermont College junior DeShawn Hamlet (Hartford, Conn.) is still racking up the yearly accolades. On Tuesday, the forward was named to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Men's Basketball All-New England Second Team.

Hamlet had previously been selected to the National Association of Basketball Coaches Division III All-Northeast and the D3hoops.com All-Northeast Second Teams.

"As a staff, we're really proud of the strides DeShawn made this year," commented second year SVC head coach Dan Engelstad. "He's a force offensively, and he's one of the elite players in Division III."

Hamlet was a two-time New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Player of the Week selection in 2014-15 and was the ECAC New England Division III Player of the Week and the U.S. Basketball Writers' Association National Player of the Week for the week ending February 8; the junior was also selected to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week for that same time.

"Any time he's on the floor, DeShawn is a threat to the other team," continued Engelstad. "We're really looking forward to what he's going to do in his senior season."

Hamlet was third in the NECC in scoring (19.4) and fourth in rebounding (7.6) and was named to the NECC All-Tournament Team in late February. The forward was then voted as the NECC Player of the Year, picking up an All-NECC First Team selection in the process.
