BENNINGTON, Vt. - In Southern Vermont College's non-conference tilt against Western Connecticut State University, the Mountaineers started out about as slow as you can. WCSU scored the first 15 points of the game en route to an 80-56 win over SVC at the Field House on Tuesday.

After the start, however, SVC never quit, pulling to within 12 with 4:49 left in the first half on a Jaret Falkowitz layup and then to nine shortly after the second half started, but the slow start was too much to overcome. Falkowitz put up 13 points and pulled down 8 rebounds for the Mountaineers.

"We had a nice run at the end of the first half and into the second," said SVC head coach Michael McDonough. "We just ran out of gas at the end."

Cambridge's Ben Naaktgeboren scored on a three-point play with 19:05 left in the game to cut WCSU's lead to 41-32, but that's as close as it would get, as Western Connecticut went on a 21-2 run over the next 10 minutes to put the contest away.

"They really hit on some threes, and that hurt us," McDonough said.

Four Mountaineers ended up in double figures, including Cambridge's Cameron Harrington, who scored 17 points and secured eight rebounds and Naaktgeboren, who had a 11-point, 10-rebound night.

SVC is back into conference play for the last seven games of the year, including Thursday night against Lesley at the SVC Field House. Tip-off is at 7:00 p.m.
