Rob Spatafore Selected as NECC Baseball Player of the Week

BENNINGTON, Vt. — The New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) announced on Monday its weekly award winners for the period ending April 10, 2016 with Southern Vermont College sophomore third baseman Rob Spatafore (Mahopac, N.Y.) taking claim to the league's Baseball Player of the Week honor.

Spatafore continued his recent string of being great from the batter's box over this past weekend, going 8-for-12 (.667) at the plate in SVC's series at Becker College. He had three RBIs and three runs scored as Southern Vermont won the series with a doubleheader sweep on Saturday. The sophomore had a double, a triple and his first collegiate home run to slug 1.167 for the week, his homer coming in a tight 4-3 win over the Hawks in Saturday's opener.

The SVC third baseman extended his hitting streak to five games through Sunday, all of which have been multi-hit performances for the Mountaineer. In that stretch, he's batted .545 (12-22) with three doubles, a triple, and a home run for a .909 slugging percentage, adding six runs knocked in and five runs scored.

This is Spatafore's first Conference accolade and the third straight week that Southern Vermont has been bestowed with the NECC's top baseball laurel.

Spatafore and the Mountaineers return to the diamond this week with a busy stretch, playing eight games in five straight days. That run starts Wednesday when SVC hosts Daniel Webster College for a 1 p.m. NECC doubleheader at Bill Epstein Field.
