LaBadia Named to D3baseball.com All-New England 3rd Team

BENNINGTON, Vt. – Becoming just the second all-region selection in program history, Southern Vermont College junior first baseman Cody LaBadia (Howes Cave, N.Y.) was named to the D3baseball.com 2014 All-New England Third Team as announced by the online outlet Monday.

This accolade follows LaBadia’s making of the All-New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) First Team after he led the league with a .438 batting average in 2014. He also garnered the Southern Vt. Sportsman of the Year Award at the College’s annual spring banquet in late April. LaBadia has since been chosen to play for the Syracuse Salt Cats of the New York Collegiate Baseball League this summer.

“This accolade for Cody is a testament to his work ethic,” commented SVC head coach Dave Gage. “It is the topping to everything he has earned this year. I am very proud of what he has accomplished and am excited he has another year in our program.”

The junior’s batting average in 2014 was second-best in SVC single season history. The one-time NECC Player of the Week also tallied 31 RBIs, the third-most in the conference, and 49 hits which ties for fourth-most in program single season history. The junior scored 25 runs on the season and cranked nine doubles, two triples and two home runs. He also stole nine bases and walked 13 times on the year. LaBadia’s 68 total bases was 16 more than any other player on the team, and he committed only seven errors in 271 chances in the field for a .974 fielding percentage.

In 2011, Mountaineer outfielder Pat Warrington was named to the All-New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association Third Team as the first all-region player for Southern Vt. LaBadia’s selection to the D3baseball.com all-region team was based on votes by select sports information directors and D3baseball.com staff and contributors following respective nominations by Division III colleges and universities. This marks the third year that D3baseball.com has chosen all-region squads.
