BENNINGTON, Vt. – Southern Vermont College senior first baseman and right-handed pitcher Corey Armstrong (Bennington, Vt.) has been named as an All-New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Honorable Mention after the 2013 season in which he hit .310 and recorded a .379 on-base percentage.
Armstrong had 31 hits on the season, three being doubles, and knocked in 19 runs; he scored 13 more. The senior righty also made nine appearances out of the bullpen, allowing just three runs for a 2.79 ERA (2.25 in NECC).
"Corey did a lot for our other first basemen like Cody (LaBadia) and Adam (Michaud)," commented head coach Dave Gage. "Especially on the defensive end of the ball, he taught them a lot of the ins and outs of the game."
Armstrong was perfect with the glove, not recording a single error in 162 total chances, 115 in conference. Additionally, his solid scoop at first base helped prevent further errors by his fellow Mountaineers.
This is the second time Armstrong is receiving All-NECC accolades after being named to the First Team as a sophomore in 2011.
