Cadets Stun Mountaineers

BENNINGTON, Vt.- After a comeback victory Sunday afternoon, the Southern Vermont College Baseball team couldn't duplicate the feat Thursday afternoon against the Norwich Cadets. After the Mountaineers tied the game at eight in the eighth inning the Cadets responded with a run in the top of the seventh and held SVC scoreless in the ninth to win 9-8 at Bill Epstein Field.

Max Ginter led Southern Vermont with a 2-2 day at the plate with a double and an RBI.  Cody LaBadia, Corey Briggs, Dillon Desiderato, Chris Nicastro, and Rob Murawski also had hits for Southern Vermont.

NECC pitcher of the week Greg Gilmore earned the start for the Mountaineers. He went five and a third innings and allowed eight runs, only four earned on nine hits. Dave Northup came on in relief and threw two and two thirds and didn't allow a run. Dustyn Marfyak pitched the ninth and allowed a unearned run while striking out two.

Southern Vermont is now 4-14 in 2012 and will resume play this weekend when the Mountaineers host NECC foe Newbury College.
