Baseball Splits Double Header with Emerson

MALDEN, MA.- After a rough start to the 2012 season the Southern Vermont College baseball looked to turn over a new leaf with its Northeast schedule. Saturday afternoon, the Mountaineers traveled to Emerson College for a double header. In game one SVC gave away a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the 6th inning and loss 6-3. However, Southern Vermont bounced back quickly with a 2-1 victory in game two.

Max Ginter earned his second victory of the year on the mound for the SVC squad. Ginter threw a complete game only allowing two hits and two walks. Each of the hits came in the fourth inning which allowed Emerson to score its lone run. The junior right hander is now 2-1 in 2012 and has both victories for the Mountaineers.

On the offensive side, Southern Vermont came out of the gates running. In the top of the second inning Dillon Desiderato singled and freshman Sal Sciara doubled to the right center gap. After back to back outs didn't allow the Mountaineers on the board, senior Rob Murawski hit a two RBI single through the right side. That was the only offense SVC could muster in game two though as Emerson pitcher Ben Quick only allowed one base runner after the Murawski single.

In game one the two sides went to the top of the sixth inning tied 2-2. With two outs in the top half of the frame, Sciara was hit by a pitch. Then while Sciara was on the move stealing second, Cody LaBadia ripped a double down the left field line to give SVC a 3-2 advantage. In the bottom of the frame Emerson battled back and loaded the bases with two outs; then an SVC error, an infield single, a walk and another base hit gave the Lions a 6-3 lead headed into the final inning. Southern Vermont was not able to score in the top of the seventh and lost game one 6-3.

Southern Vermont is now 2-11 in 2012 and will host its home opener Tuesday against Rivier College at 3PM.
