Baseball Gets First Win of 2012

TUCSON, AZ.- For the first time in the 2012 season everything clicked for the Southern Vermont College baseball team. Also, for the first time in 2012 the SVC baseball team earn a win with a 10-3 victory over Presentation College, Wednesday afternoon. The win improves SVC to 1-6 in the 2012 campaign.

Six Mountaineers had three hits in the game including freshmen Sal Sciara, Chris Nicastro, and Cody LaBadia. Also tallying three hits in the win was Dillon Desiderato, Rob Murawski, and Keith Diotte. Jarod Hayen also went 2-6 for SVC. LaBadia led Southern Vermont with three RBI's Wednesday afternoon.

Max Ginter gave SVC the start they needed, as the junior right hander threw eight innings and only surrendered three runs. Ginter allowed two walks and struck out one. Dave Northup finished the game earning the final three outs.

The Mountaineers  got on the scoreboard in the top of the first when Diotte singled, stole second and was chased home with a Desiderato single. In the second SVC kept the momentum with three more runs. Nicastro singled with one out and Murawski followed with a single to right. Then with two outs Hayen and Diotte each singled and gave the Mountaineers a 4-0 advantage after two innings of play. SVC added another run in the fifth and two more in each the seventh and eighth to push the game out of reach.

Ginter worked out of a bases loaded jam in the first and again in the third with one out, both times not allowing a run. In the seventh Presentation looked to make a comeback with bases loaded again and only one out. However, after a walk Ginter induced a groundball to get the second out and another groundball to Desiderato to finish the inning.

Southern Vermont is back in action tomorrow against Jamestown College.
