Mountaineers Can’t Tip The Purple Cows

BENNINGTON, Vt. The Southern Vermont College baseball team fell to the visiting non-conference opponent the Williams College Ephs 17-1 Wednesday night at Epstein Field. The Mountaineers were held to only three hits on the day from sophomores Keith Diotte and Eric Wells, and one from junior Adam Northup.

The Mountaineers fall to 10-14 overall, while Williams improves to 17-9-1.

The Ephs scored seven runs in the first inning and three in the second to take a commanding lead from the get go. The Mountaineers scored its lone run in the fourth inning on an RBI single from Northup.

Ben Oliva (1-1) got the win on the hill for the Ephs as he struck out nine Mountaineers in six innings of work.. 

Freshman pitcher Corey Armstrong took the loss for Southern Vermont falling to 3-2 overall. Sophomore Greg Gilmore came in to relieve Armstrong in the first and pitched a solid five and a third striking out three Ephs. Freshman Joel DeFedele closed out the game pitching three strong innings.

Taylor Mondshein led Williams with four hits, two RBI, and scoring once.

The Mountaineers are back in action Thursday, April 22nd, at Oneonta State University at 3:30 p.m.
