BENNINGTON, Vt. – The Southern Vermont College baseball team was defeated 22-3 in non-conference action by the Thoroughbreds of Skidmore College Tuesday night on Epstein Field. Senior shortstop Brett Pawlak led the way offensively for SVC going 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
The loss drops SVC to 7-11, while SC improved to 17-5.
The Thoroughbreds were up 10-0 after four innings when the Mountaineers scored three runs. An RBI single from Pawlak, a sac fly from sophomore Eric Wells that sent junior Dave Gage home, and an RBI single from junior Adam Northup rounds out the SVC scoring for the night.
Skidmore tagged on five runs in the eight inning and seven more in the ninth to seal the victory.
Junior Nick Laracuente (3-1) got the win on the hill for Skidmore pitching five innings striking out six, walking three, and allowing three runs. Southern Vermont freshman Corey Armstrong (3-1) picked up his first loss of the year striking out two, walking three, and allowing seven runs.
Lead-off hitter freshman Leejay Pollacchi of Skidmore went 4-for-6 scoring three times and knocking in two runs. Senior Matt Pisani and junior Zach Brown each had four RBI’s as the Thoroughbreds had a total of 49 at-bats in the game.
The Mountaineers are back in action on tomorrow, April 14th, when it hosts non-conference foe MCLA at 3:00 p.m.
