Thalia Smith (Hudson) | Inducted 2012

Thalia Smith, Class of 2012, is one of the greatest Mountaineers to ever put on goalkeeper gloves.  A majority of her freshman season was spent backing-up and learning under Denise Welch (Class of ’97, Hall of Fame Class of 2001).  Over her next three years, Thalia eclipsed many of Welch’s records and came close to matching those which she did not surpass.

Thalia finished her college career with a 1.62 goals against average, the best ever for an SVC keeper.  Her overall record was 29-25-5, a .543 winning percentage which ranks as the highest of all time for a women’s soccer goalie.  She holds the SVC record for most career saves with 543 and owns the top two best goals against season averages with a 1.35 in 1997 and a staggering 0.92 in ’96.  She is second to Welch for the most career shutouts (11.5) and most shutouts in a season (six in ‘97); Welch had 12 for her career and seven in 1994.

Thalia, a criminal justice major, graduated in 2000 and currently works as a detective in the Bennington Police Department.
