BENNINGTON, Vt. – On Thursday, Southern Vermont College released its men’s and women’s basketball schedules for the 2016-17 winter seasons.

Men’s Basketball
The defending New England Collegiate Conference Champions have a full, 25-game slate lined up in their attempt to get back to the league playoffs. The Mountaineers begin their campaign on Tuesday, November 15 when the Mountaineers visit Keene State College for a 7:30 p.m. season tip-off. SVC then plays in its first of two tournaments during the fall semester the following weekend, taking on Bowdoin College (Nov. 18) and Trinity College (Nov. 19) in the Hampton Inn Classic hosted by UMass-Dartmouth. SVC then returns for its first of 11 home games, playing host to Johnson State College at the Mountaineer Athletic Center on Tuesday, November 22 at 6 p.m.
Additional inner-state, non-conference home games for SVC pit the Mountaineers against Castleton State University (Nov. 27) and Middlebury College (Dec. 7). Splitting those two dates is Southern Vermont’s NECC opener, a December 1 matchup at Regis College. The Mountaineers conclude the fall semester with the Tri-State Shootout Tournament hosted by Mass. College of Liberal Arts, SVC taking on Fisher College in the opening round on Friday, December 9 as Southern Vermont vies to win its fourth-straight Shootout title.
Following New Year’s Day, the Mountaineers get back to it with their final non-conference game on January 7 at Fitchburg State University. SVC then jumps back into the heart of the league schedule as the team moves to make it back to the NECC postseason. Southern Vermont will hold its Senior Day on Saturday, February 11 in conjunction with a 3 p.m. tip against Wheelock College.
Women’s Basketball
Women’s basketball is also lined up to play a full, 25-game schedule during the regular season in the winter of 2016-17. Southern Vermont will start the campaign on Tuesday, November 15 with a 6 p.m. tip-off at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. The Mountaineers then head to Upstate New York for the weekend, competing in the SUNY Plattsburgh Cardinal Classic Saturday, November 19 and Sunday, November 20; SVC takes on the hosting Cardinals Saturday in the opening round of the tournament with that game’s winner moving on to the Classic’s championship match on Sunday.
Southern Vermont visits SUNY Cobleskill on November 22 before returning to Bennington for the first of 10 home games to be played at the Mountaineer Athletic Center over the course of the season; SVC’s home opener is also the Mountaineers’ first New England Collegiate Conference game of the season, a 7 p.m. tilt against Bay Path University. Southern Vermont will play two additional league games before concluding the fall semester with a December 6 trip to New England College for a non-conference battle.
The Mountaineers get right back to NECC action upon returning from the winter break, moving through the Conference schedule at they look to get back to the league’s postseason tournament for the third-straight year. Southern Vermont will hold Senior Day on Saturday, February 11 while welcoming Wheelock College to the MAC for a 1 p.m. tip, and the Mountaineers then play their only non-conference home game against Mass. College of Liberal Arts at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 15 to wrap up their regular season home schedule.
