2015 Spring Schedules Released

Southern Vermont College Athletics announced Thursday the schedules for the 2015 spring teams. Links for each of the four Mountaineer squads can be found below. Please note that there may still be changes to the schedules prior to the start of competition.

Men's Volleyball

The SVC men’s volleyball team looks to kick-off the 2015 season with a tri-match at the College of Mount St. Vincent on January 24 before heading down to Cairn University in Philadelphia for a two-day tournament starting January 30. The Mountaineers return to the Northeast for five road matches including the New England Collegiate Conference opener at Regis College on February 14; additional contests during that stretch pit Southern Vt. against Bard College (Feb. 10), Emerson College (Feb. 14), and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Feb. 17). Daniel Webster College then comes to the SVC campus for the team’s home opener on February 21 when the Mountaineers will look to top an Eagles team that ended Southern Vt.’s season in 2014. League play details the remainder of the season except for when SVC heads to Springfield College to play in a highly-competitive two-day tournament against the likes of 2014 NCAA tournament contender New Paltz State (April 3) and three-time defending NCAA National Champion Springfield (April 4).

Baseball

Baseball is slated to begin the 2015 season with a doubleheader down at Southern Virginia University on February 14 prior to making a second trip southward the following weekend to play at Hood College in Maryland (Feb. 20) and then Gallaudet University in Washington D.C. (Feb. 21). The Mountaineers are scheduled to play another seven away games before embarking on its annual spring break trip; they will head to Winter Haven, Florida for the Russmatt Baseball 2015 Central Florida Invitational for five games beginning on March 15 (all opponents to be determined). SVC then heads back to campus for its Opening Day when the Mountaineers welcome Daniel Webster College for a doubleheader on March 21 to begin the New England Collegiate Conference schedule. Additional non-conference contests for third-year head coach Dave Gage and his squad include games against Eastern Nazarene College (away- March 24), Gordon College (home- April 2), Norwich University (home- April 9), and Emerson College (away- April 24). SVC caps the league schedule in a series with 2014 Champion Mitchell College, beginning with a pair at MC on April 25.

Women’s Lacrosse

The inaugural SVC women’s lacrosse season begins with a pair of home games for head coach Thomas L. Otero and his Mountaineers who are slated to host Fitchburg State University on March 7 and then Johnson State College on March 10. Southern Vt. travels to Colby-Sawyer College on March 12 before opening the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) schedule on March 24 with a home tilt against Daniel Webster College. Rounding out the non-conference schedule the rest of the way are games at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (April 1) and Green Mountain College (April 12) in addition to a home contest versus New England College (April 22). A date for the Mountaineers’ game against defending NECC Champion Regis College is still yet to be confirmed.

Softball

The softball team will once again head to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for the Snowbird Softball Classic to start the 2015 season; dates and opponents are still to be determined. Upon the Mountaineers’ return, they jump right into the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) schedule with an Opening Day doubleheader against Elms College on March 21 at Bennington’s Willow Park. Second year head coach Alyssa Davis and her crew then head to Becker College for a pair on March 28 before returning home to host Bay Path College (March 29) and Regis College (April 2). SVC will head to Williams College for a tough non-conference doubleheader on April 8 before turning back to league play with a pair of games at Wheelock College (April 11) and at home versus Daniel Webster College (April 12). Southern Vt. is also set to face the College of St. Joseph’s (Vt.) on April 16 and Pine Manor College on April 21, both on the road, before welcoming Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts on April 23 to round out the non-conference schedule.
