BENNINGTON, Vt. – The New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Semifinal Championship matchups have been decided with the hosting No. 1 seed Southern Vermont College to take on No. 4 Daniel Webster College Friday evening at 6 p.m. at the Mountaineer Athletic Center.
No. 2 Regis College will take on No. 3 Newbury College 40 minutes following the completion of Game 1.
The Mountaineers, who finished 7-1 in the NECC (10-8 overall) defeated Daniel Webster 3-1 back on October 20. DWC (5-3 NECC, 11-12 overall) advances after knocking off No. 5 Lesley University (5-3 NECC, 9-17 overall) 3-1 Tuesday night in a first-round match. Lesley was able to take the first set 25-17 before the Eagles stormed back to edge the next three with game scores of 25-22, 25-21, and 25-22.
Regis also took the first-round bye, claiming the two seed after going 6-2 in the league, 13-17 overall. The Pride face Newbury (6-2 NECC, 14-15 overall) in a rematch of a 2012 semifinal which RC won 3-1. Regis also took this season’s regular season finale 3-0 at Newbury on October 25. The Nighthawks advanced through the first round by edging No. 6 Mitchell College (4-4 NECC, 9-14 overall) by a 3-2 margin Tuesday evening, winning with set scores of 18-25, 25-23, 16-25, 27-25, and 15-11.
The championship match is scheduled for Saturday at 2 p.m. at the MAC.
