BENNINGTON, Vt. – The New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) announced Friday the 2012 Fall Academic All-Conference teams, and of the 169 student-athletes around the conference who were named for their respective sports, 14 are representatives from Southern Vermont College.
To be eligible for the NECC Academic All-Conference, a student-athlete must post a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.40 on a scale of 4.00 and must be a sophomore or higher in class standings. Student-athletes who competed in men's and women's cross country, men's golf, field hockey, men's and women's soccer, women's tennis and women's volleyball were eligible for fall NECC academic honors.
SVC Provost Al DeCiccio expressed his pleasure in seeing the 14 Mountaineers named to the team by saying, “I am delighted to see these SVC student-athletes honored for their wonderful achievements. In addition to meeting course requirements, these special students have done so while committing to the grueling practice and game schedules of their teams. I celebrate both their remarkable academic success and their ability to achieve it while meeting and exceeding athletic expectations and obligations. These student-athletes are models for our SVC community.”
Of the 14 Mountaineers honored, four are receiving the recognition again: Men’s soccer player Douglas Spingola (East Haddam, Conn.), women’s cross country runner Sara Burds (Williston, Vt.) and women’s volleyball captain Danielle Healis (Escondido, Calif.) are were each named for the second-consecutive year, while women’s soccer player Danielle Celotto (Ledyard, Conn.) is being recognized for the third year in a row.
