Inside the numbers: Safford was instrumental in the Mountaineers’ Saturday win over Dean—that being the team’s first win of the year. She tied her career high of nine goals while adding three assists to break the team’s single-game points record of 11. The sophomore also had four ground balls, two draw controls, and two caused turnovers against the Bulldogs. After having a bit of a slow offensive start to the year, Safford has now scored in the Mountaineers’ last six games; Saturday was just her second multi-goal game of the season.
What Coach Boyer is saying: "Alex had a great game on Saturday. She was able to find the back of the net and facilitate. We had a tough non-conference season, but I think that helped her get ready for the conference season. I am excited to see how the next two weeks play out for her.”
