Inside the numbers: Marcello had a strong finish to the season last week as he tallied a pair of doubles—one scoring two runs in the Mountaineers’ Tuesday playoff game against Eastern Nazarene. He didn’t commit any errors in 14 total chances behind the dish, and the sophomore threw out a pair of runners trying to steal in the postseason tilt with the Lions. On Monday, in the regular season-ending doubleheader with ENC, Marcello went 1-2 in SVC’s 4-3 win. He then went 1-3 on Tuesday with the pair of RBIs coming in the top of the seventh to put Southern Vermont on top by one. Tuesday was the third time this year and the fourth time of his career that Marcello batted in multiple runs in the same game.
What Coach Skonieczki is saying: “I am really impressed with Jason—not only this week, but the way he handled being an ‘everyday’ catcher for our team. He has shown the ability to handle a pitching staff and have quality at bats. He did a great job at the plate and leading our pitching staff this week.”
