ATHLETE OF THE WEEK FOR PERIOD ENDING 2/10/19
Taylor Mallett #5 (Women's Basketball)
Jr. / 5-6 / Guard
Hometown: Berwick, Maine
High School: Noble HS
Major: Business Admin./Sports, Recreation & Tourism Management
Inside the numbers: Mallett was solid across Southern Vermont’s three contests last week as she helped SVC push towards a playoff berth. She averaged 6.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 1.7 steals per game. In the Mountaineers’ Tuesday win over Lesley, the junior had seven points, six assists, three boards, and two steals; she had only two turnovers to tie her best ratio this year (3.0), but Tuesday saw her dish out twice as many helpers as she did on December 13. In a close loss at Eastern Nazarene on Thursday, Mallett tallied another seven points, three assists, and three steals while grabbing seven rebounds to come one shy of tying her career-best.
What Coach Gowan is saying: “Taylor consistently sets the tempo for our team. She pushes the tempo, is our defensive stopper, and always provides great energy. She has worked diligently on the offensive side of her game this season, and you can see it in how her shooting range has improved tremendously. I can always count on her effort and feistiness, and I love it!”
