Inside the numbers: Backels put up some big numbers during Southern Vermont’s four-match week. He started on Thursday by notching a triple-double in the Mountaineers’ home opener—registering 19 digs, 18 assists, and 12 kills; he only had two attacking errors on 26 swings for a .385 hitting percentage against Colby-Sawyer. The senior would finish the week with a double-double during SVC’s win at NVU-Johnson with 24 assists and 11 digs; Backels also posted five aces and four kills against the Badgers. For the week, he averaged 4.36 assists, 2.93 digs, and 1.29 kills per set.
